Built from the massive resonance of the contrabass, Substra for Padshop 2 reimagines the orchestral foundation as a contemporary cinematic sound design tool. By deeply sampling low-end textures and percussive strikes on the instrument’s heavy body, this expansion delivers an extraordinary palette of lush pads, re-synthesized textures, and innovative low-frequency FX. From eerie, spectral clarity to gritty, dark soundscapes, it pushes the bass far beyond the concert stage to provide an avant-garde toolkit for trailers, film scoring, and deep-frequency electronic exploration.
Inside, you’ll discover lush pads with organic motion, re-synthesized textures, and an expansive collection of orchestral FX including cinematic risers, impacts, and dramatic string-scapes. These elements are paired with eerie mystery soundscapes and rhythmic suites of percussion recorded directly from the body of the contrabass, creating a rich toolkit for tension, weight, and atmosphere.
Balanced between spectral clarity and gritty darkness, Substra is equally at home crafting glassy, metallic presets for New Age meditation or low-end grit for electronic music productions. Designed for film scoring, trailers, science fiction, and horror, this expansion unlocks a world of deep-frequency exploration — shaped entirely by the powerful voice of the contrabass.

Online Music Foundry was founded by composer and sound designer Gary Gibbons, who has decades of experience in audio production. With all his experience, Gary instantly recognized the potential of Padshop Pro when it was first released and, since then, he has produced over 10,000 presets. With his desire to share his Padshop knowledge with users and to increase the Padshop community, he created a social media group for Steinberg Instruments - Users Group to share programming tips, technical issues and basic knowledge. He continues to make tutorials for the group and the Steinberg VST instruments and plug-ins YouTube channel.
